About the event

Jill Wagner will highlight the critical role of seed banking in supporting the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030). In her paper (listed under articles on this site) she highlights the growing need for diverse and genetically robust seed collections to facilitate successful afforestation, reforestation, and revegetation projects globally. The scarcity of seeds, exacerbated by climate change-induced pollination disruptions, underscores the urgency for establishing more comprehensive seed banks. These facilities are essential for preserving a wide variety of native species, ensuring long-term viability and availability for restoration efforts. She advocates for improved seed banking infrastructure to support the scaling of restoration projects and to foster resilience against future ecological challenges.
